Kenya’s National Infrastructure Fund has begun buying domestic government bonds using its 340 billion shilling seed capital, Reuters reports.

Chief executive James Mworia says the purchases should release bank liquidity for private lending. He expects the capital to be deployed by June 2027.

The fund plans commercially viable investments in energy, transport, ICT, water and agriculture. The reported liquidity benefit is an expectation, not an established outcome.
