Nigeria’s HubPharm Africa received the $30,000 top prize at the ECOWAS Startup Awards held in Abuja on September 30, according to the regional commission. Co-founder and chief executive Tope Kareem accepted the award.

Gaynako of Senegal received $20,000, while Côte d’Ivoire’s My Opinion received $15,000. ECOWAS also announced a private-sector development academy and startup networks.

HubPharm works on access to healthcare and pharmaceuticals. The award recognises the company’s work; it does not establish a new funding round or a valuation.

WHY IT MATTERS

The award recognises a healthcare startup and places it within ECOWAS’s wider innovation support.
